Born in Hayward, California in 1993, Austin Willis is a self-taught artist with a background in photography. Willis’ practice is an observational exploration of life and it’s more personal moments. He finds inspiration in people, places, sound, and nature to create abstract paintings with natural pigments and spices such as beetroot, wheatgrass, turmeric, and paprika. Motivated by his connection to nature, this is a deliberately slow process, and involves experimentation, repetition and patience, to allow for an organic merging of materials. Willis’ practice is led by a desire to achieve balance and understanding of the human experience. Austin Willis lives and work in Brooklyn, New York.
